Blog #10

In the Wikipedia article for Viral Marketing I read I thought it was very interesting how the term Viral Marketing applies to reality. A viral infection occurs when a virus encounters a "susceptible" person and infect her. The person then can infect other susceptible people by "sending" the virus, which generates a exponential growth and can lead to a epidemic crisis. The amazing thing about technology is that, just like a virus, the social media can spread information easily to multiple people around the world. even though it is an interesting correlation, it can become dangerous. The use of social media for marketing purposes is really smart and effective for the reality we live in nowadays. I still remember the day there was no ads before the videos on YouTube and when Facebook barely had any, which was the main difference of the website that made it so famous; however, most websites and apps that we use daily is full of adds. One interesting new trend I see on instagram and Facebook specially is the post from famous people or brands in which a promotion is being announced. Usually, the trend is to offer a product to the people who 1. like the picture 2. follow the account 3. share the picture and finally 4. tag friends. This is a new way the viral marketing found to spread to people their products in an exponential form because for every person that sees the announcement and shares it or tags people, many more ends up seeing it.
