From the reading of chapter 13 “Understanding Research” from the McGraw Hill Handbook I could understand better and develop a guide to help me through the process of writing the research paper for project 2. Since it is a long project, it is essential to have your initial plan well stated because writing 2500 words will require multiple days. I learned that we are doing a secondary research in which we look for other people’s works about an specific topic in order to write ours. To start the process of writing, and even of researching, there are a few things that are important to have in mind:

  1. The audience (who am I writing this to? What do they already know about this topic? Will they understand it or will it be controversial?

  2. The purpose (Is it informative, interpretative or persuasive?)

  3. Voice/ stance/ tone (well informed and helpful writer – hopefully)

  4. Genre/medium (research paper first, website later)

  5. Context (overall situation)

  6. Scope (how long, due date, sources, etc)

Therefore, knowing these details help develop a research plan for you work and consequently help us develop a strategy for the project.
