From the reading of the Chapter 7 “Integrating and Documenting Sources” from the Bedford Book of Genres, I could go over how to add citations from researches into your paper, as well as review other methods to avoid plagiarism such as quoting, paraphrasing and summary. The chapter focus on the MLA format, which is the most common one for college papers. In a research paper, in which multiple research is made, it is extremely important and useful know the different methods to incorporate the essential ideas from researches into your paper. By doing so, you write a paper that shares more knowledge, you add credibility to your paper, make it more interesting and trustful. However, it can work as a double-edged sword since you do not want to use someone else’s words and consequently lose all the credibility in your work.
In summary, for the MLA format it is essential to add in text citations such as:
Parenthethical: “hello” (Lastname, page#)
Naming in a signal phrase: Adele argues that… she said “hello” (page#)
And a bibliography at the end of the paper in the work cited page, which should follow this pattern:
Last, first name. “Title of article.” Title of magazine, publisher, date, website.
