In the reading of Lamott's article Shitty First Drafts I could relate my situation as a writer to a professional writer, and use her knowledge in the area of composition to help me deal with my struggle on it. Multiple times I see myself in a challenging situation when I have to write papers; even though I try to work ahead of time, I see myself not inspired to write or cannot think straight to write something good or to find the correct words in English (since it is my second language), and that’s how my procrastination starts. However, when reading this article, I found out that this problem does not only affect me, an amateur, international student athlete, but it also affects people that are talented and have the skills to work with writing, which gave me some hope. In her article, Lamott explained how a shitty first draft helped her get her work done even when she did not feel inspired to write, that is, when she was facing the same struggle I usually do. The authour found in the shitty first draft the solution to her problem, and that might be the answer I was looking for to prevent procrastination. From now on, I will follow her advice and write long, shitty and even confusing first drafts to start my composition and then, with time, I can fix it and turn it into a beautiful essay. I just have to trust myself that it will work and start writing.
